			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.cadillac.com/">Cadillac</a>, the luxury vehicle owned by General Motors Company, <a href="http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-03-09/cadillac-distances-itself-from-gm-to-escape-bankruptcy-stigma.html">has decided to distance itself from its parent company</a> to stay away from the stigma and the immense disappointment GM suffered with its $50 billion U.S.-backed bankruptcy in 2009. The Cadillac management team has initiated strategies to dissociate itself from the strained image of the automaker based in Detroit, Michigan to create a renewed individual image and introduce unique marketing strategies that will enhance its credibility.</p>
<p>Such evident strategies include deleting the “GM” name from its marketing efforts and local dealerships, replacing its email address domain name “@gm.com” with “@cadillac.com” and withdrawing its participation in <a href="http://www.gm.com/">General Motors</a>&#8216; promotions such as the <a href="www.gm.com/redtag/">Red Tag Event</a>. </p>
<p>The tables have turned from five years ago when Cadillac began to include a silver GM logo on all of its vehicles. Today, Cadillac is determined to execute separation strategies such as running its own ad campaigns. </p>
<p>Cadillac’s endeavor to separate itself from General Motors has been driven by GM’s poor public image and management restructuring. Cadillac’s management has expressed that it is not to the company’s advantage and desire to be linked with a fallen company that could ruin Cadillac’s sales, performance and credibility. <a href="http://money.cnn.com/2009/06/01/news/companies/gm_bankruptcy/">GM’s bankruptcy</a> has destroyed its reputation as being one of the biggest automakers that creates high quality vehicles and other products in the United States. </p>
<p>Cadillac, one of General Motor’s brands along with Chevrolet and Buick, already took a beating due to the parent company’s bankruptcy. Cadillac’s U.S. sales dropped tremendously by 32% in 2009, while GM experienced a slightly lower drop of 30%. This year, Cadillac’s increase in sales is the lowest among the four existing brands of GM at 14%. It is only less than half of the parent company’s overall gain of 31%. </p>
