Sony USA and its Philanthropic Contributions

New York-based Sony Corporation of America, a subsidiary of Sony in Tokyo, Japan, is one of the most comprehensive entertainment companies in the world today. As a world-class manufacturer of video, audio, communications and informational technology products, it has accumulated over $88.7 billion in annual sales, employing over 180,500 worldwide.

All across America, Sony’s principal businesses are making strides in their philanthropic initiatives, utilizing unique resources and channeling donations to benefit the arts, education, civic and community outreach, and the environment.

Education opportunities for underprivileged are a focus area for Sony USA. Among its initiatives include grants to Culver City that showcases events that are open for public consumption such as free outdoor concerts, arts, and programs. It also supports the development of local theatre groups. In addition, it has given donations to several museums and cultural institutions and has continued to support film festivals and organizations worldwide.

It also holds sports activities and community outreach activities to promote community action promoting environmental concern and awareness. Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. collaborates with the American Youth Soccer Organization to hold the Annual Sony Pictures Screenland Classic, a two-day soccer tournament that aims to promote sportsmanship among the youth. It also put up an Urban Green Fund in partnership with TreePeople, a California-based environmental group focusing on reforestation and conservation efforts.

Charitable giving is something Sony USA has institutionalized. Every year, its employees donate to a preferred charity online or make it through payroll deductions for its United Way campaign.
