Mayer Brown – Key Executives

James D. Holzhauer

James Holzhauer is the current chairman of Mayer Brown and has held the position since June 2007. Currently employed as the law firm’s partner, James Holzhauer’s primary role is handling the affairs of the Policy & Planning Committee, of which he is the chair, and retaining responsibility for risk management. James Holzhauer was a professor at the University of Chicago Law School when he joined Mayer Brown in 1988 and continued his academic profession until 2006. Prior to joining Mayer Brown, James Holzhauer became a Law Clerk to The Honorable Robert A. Ainsworth Jr., United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, after which he was Law Clerk to Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, Supreme Court of the United States.

Kenneth S. Geller J.D.

Kenneth Geller is employed as partner at Mayer Brown and also serves as the firm’s vice chairman. He is also a respected member of the Supreme Court and Appellate practice and has been recognized for his way of presenting his arguments. Chambers USA 2006 describes Kenneth Geller as “a standout lawyer in a very talented group” and one who possesses “superb judgment.” Kenneth Geller has argued over 40 cases in the Supreme Court and was named one of the “The Best Lawyers in America in the Field of Appellate Law.” Before joining Mayer Brown, Kenneth Geller served as Deputy Solicitor General of the US Department of Justice (1979–1986) and as assistant to the DOJ’s Solicitor General (1975–1979).

Evan L. Merberg

Evan Merberg is the chief operating officer of Mayer Brown LLP, replacing Stephen R. Wells who retired from the firm at the end of 2008. Prior to coming on board Mayer Brown, Evan Merberg was the chief financial officer and chief administrative officer of Citi Home Equity, a division of Citigroup Inc. He was also a former director of Salomon Brothers Asset Management Inc.

Paul Maher

Paul Maher is the current global vice chairman of Mayer Brown and serves as a member of the Policy & Planning Committee that governs Mayer Brown’s global practice. A respected practitioner in the field of corporate law and one with a vast and extensive experience in international mergers and acquisitions work, Paul Maher provides counsel for a long list of domestic and international clients, majority of which are companies in life sciences, chemicals, financial services, pharmaceuticals, retail, communications and information services sectors.

Michael Blair works as a partner for Mayer Brown and is one of the firm’s leading practitioners in the area of acquisition, public and private mergers, financing transactions, and divestiture as well as joint ventures and private placements of debt and equity securities. Michael Blair’s expertise in such areas has led him to concentrate on giving legal advice to leading equity and umbrella partnership real estate investment trusts, private investment fund sponsors, domestic and foreign corporations and partnerships, insurance companies, pension funds, financial advisors and commercial banks.
