Thompson Dean

Thompson Dean co-founded Avista Capital in 2005 and currently serves as the firm’s co-managing partner and chief executive officer. Before Avista Capital was established, he was already a successful finance professional who worked with DLJ Merchant Banking Partners for 10 years. Thompson Dean also excelled in college and was a Baker Scholar in Harvard Business School and an Eschols Scholar during his days at the University of Virginia.

Steven Webster

Steven Webster is the company’s president and co-managing partner. He is also one of the co-founders of Avista Capital. Steven Webster’s expertise revolves around venture capital and investments.

David Burgstahler

David Burgstahler is one of the founding individuals of Avista Capital and currently sits as a Partner. He was also one of the key personnel of DLJMB and handled investments in healthcare and media industries. David Burgstahler is presently a Director of Cidron (ConvaTec), BioReliance, Navilyst Medical, Lantheus Medical Imaging, Visant, WideOpenWest, and Warner Chilcott.

Robert Cabes

Robert Cabes is one of the founding partners of Avista Capital when it was formed in 2005. Prior to his work with Avista Capital, he was a financial staff for DLJMB Global Energy Partners and worked in investments in the energy sector. At present, Robert Cabes is based in Houston and sits as a Director of Celtique Energie, Blake Offshore, Laramie Energy, Geokinetics, Pinnacle Gas Resources, Manti Exploration, and MedServe.

David Durkin

David Durkin is a co-founder of Avista Capital Partners in 2005. He worked as a Partner of DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, focusing on investment banking. At present, David Durkin is a director of Frontier, IWCO, Merrill and the Prometheus Laboratories. He was also a director of Arcade, MGM and Seabulk International.

OhSang Kwon

In 2005, OhSang Kwon helped found Avista Capital. Prior to that, he was a Partner for DLJ Merchant Banking and was a pivotal figure in a number of the firm’s significant investments including Professional Career Development Institute, American Ref-Fuel, Advanstar, and TXU. OhSang Kwon is now director of InvestorPlace Media, Star Tribune and Thompson Publishing.

James Finkelstein

James Finkelstein was a Chairman of DLJMB Global Media Partners when he and several others left the investment firm and founded Avista Capital in 2005. Prior to his career with DLJMB, he was president and CEO of the National Law Publishing Company. Today, he sits as chairman of the boards of InvestorPlace Media, Thompson Publishing Group and News Communications. James Finkelstein also serves as a director of Star Tribune and WideOpenWest.

Larry Pickering

Prior to forming Avista Capital in 2005, Larry Pickering was chairman of DLJMB Global Healthcare Partners. His financial expertise covers private equity investments in the healthcare industry. He has 27 years of operating management experience including holding significant positions in pharmaceutical companies. Larry Pickering is now a member of the boards of directors of BioReliance and BSC NAMIC/VA and serves as the Executive Chairman of Lantheus Medical Imaging.
