WilmerHale

Borne from the historic merger of two prominent law firms Hale and Dorr LLP of Boston fame, and Washington-based Wilmer Cutler & Pickering LLP, WilmerHale has ranked among the elite 15% of the United States’ highest-grossing firms roster in The National Law Journal’s The Am Law 100. Its $955 million gross revenue as of February 11, 2009 is a result of the collective efforts of its international practices in Beijing, Baltimore, Boston, Berlin, London, Brussels, New York, Munich, Oxford, Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, and Waltham, which bring together a total of 1,000 lawyers.

WilmerHale’s offices in 12 cities across the United States, Asia, and Europe include a considerable force of 450 litigators with an extensive background in trial, appellate and Supreme Court. Two hundred of its legal professionals belong to its renowned securities law practice (more than 100 regulatory attorneys were themselves part of the inner workings of the government through previously held high-level positions). The firm has over 125 technology pundits and lawyers with technical or scientific degrees and more than 250 lawyers who specialize in corporate transactional and business counseling. The firm’s powerhouse of specializations also addresses the fields of labor and employment, real estate, bankruptcy, tax, environment and private client concerns.

The commitment to legal excellence, dedication to clients and commitment to public service is embodied by WilmerHale. Its distinguished lawyers have been in the foreground of public service, both across the nation and international borders. Among its many powerful clients are top financial institutions such as Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, The Hartford Financial Group, HSBC Finance, and JPMorgan Chase. Other prominent corporations from diverse industries that make up WilmerHale’s clientele are AT&T, Boeing, General Electric, Procter & Gamble, Kodak, and Lufthansa.

The firm also puts a premium on the corporate values of diversity, entrepreneurial spirit, collaboration and collegiality, and community giving. The latter is made evident in the firm’s pro bono representations and charitable activities. This tradition is founded on its dedication to legal aid work since the early 20th century.

Executive leadership in WilmerHale falls nothing short of exemplary. The model developed by the firm involves a triumvirate of the Management Committee, Practice Leadership and Senior Administrative Leadership Group. Each team of leaders focuses on a major aspect in the continued advancement of the institution.

Scott Green is at the helm of the firm’s Management Committee as executive director. The co-managing partners are William F. Lee and William J. Peristein. The team’s assistant managing partners are Carol A. Clayton and John M. Westcott, Jr. They lead the team in supervising the overall management of WilmerHale.

The practice leaders are the second vital arm of leadership in WilmerHale as they oversee the firm’s five primary areas of practice and the services offered under each.  Donald T. Steinberg, Howard M. Shapiro, Susan W. Murley, Robert T. Novick, and William McLucas comprise WilmerHale’s leadership group.

WilmerHale’s senior administrators see to it that the punctilious internal processes of the business are kept at par with the service provided by its first-rate professionals to their clients. Scott Green also serves as this committee’s executive director. He is assisted by the chief officers of the various departments in the firm, primarily by Marian Free who is its chief administrative officer.
